Ocho: Coffee by the Canal
Glasgow Food - City Centre (ish)
What was once a hidden gem, out of the way and off the beaten track is now being seen by the people of Glasgow by showcasing all they have to offer - and it’s a lot!
I am someone who was born and raised here in Glasgow and I wasn’t aware of this place until just a couple of years ago. This team has been here for 6 years but now that I know about them, best believe that I’m telling everyone as it really is one of Glasgow’s treasures and one that we will continue to hold onto.
where?
There are few places in Glasgow that have a location like Ocho: right by the canal, away from the noise but still at the same time, reeeeaalllyy close to the city centre.
People have been looking for a getaway, especially during the time of a pandemic, and numero Ocho at Speirs Wharf (that’s Spanish for number 8 for all you uncultured people) provides just that. Very reminiscent of a day out in Copenhagen, particularly with it being by the canal and seeing all the boats. Not a bad place to go for a walk or take a little pit stop on a bike ride.
Check out our day at Ocho and the sit down we had with Tash in the video below.
whAT?
Well if you’re looking for a weekend, or weekday, brunch then look no further. Tailor made brunch chosen by you with some pretty unbelievable coffee to go alongside it. There is one dish that I MUST go back for and that is the Spinach pancakes. Look, I’m not vegan or anything but does that not sound weird and wonderful? I had to make sure but it comes with salmon, feta, capers and what not. If you’ve had brunch/lunch here, then I wanna know about it!
Contrary to what Tash said in the video, this place is more than just nice. All the food is fresh and made to order, not sitting around getting crusty under a food lamp and not being tossed in the bin because they had to at the end of the day.
I was assured that there is a large variety of dairy free milks, if you’re into that sort of thing and that they don’t do almond milk. Something about saving the bees…might want to talk to the team if you go (haha) - I’m away to do some google-ing.
when can i go, you say?
It’s open everyday, 10.30am-4pm and is now taking people to sit in! (Yay).
Get down, get some scran and tell the good people at Ocho that your boy Jonny gave you the treasure map to their gold. Give someone a fish and they can eat for a day but give them directions to Ocho and they’ll eat like royalty and have their bellies full of goodness for a whiiiiile. That’s how the saying goes, right?
Catch Tash and the team on Instagram - @ochoglasgow
You’ll get a chance to see some of their goodness and Carlo’s photography skills.
Enjoy yourselves!
Cheers
